A fragment of medieval, copper-alloy binding strip from a casket, comprising a bar with a flat reverse and a flattened, D-shaped cross-section, bifurcated at one end with one arm curving to end in a broken, perforated, circular terminal. The other arm has been broken off at the point where the two arms split and has been lost. The opposite end of the bar terminates in an old break. No surface treatment is visible. Object type: STIRRUP
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An early-medieval, 11th-12th century cast copper-alloy, zoomorphic stirrup terminal. The terminal is concave on the back with the residue of a glue or solder in-situ. The front of the terminal is cast to represent an animal's face with bulbous eyes and flaring nostrils. This is probably the separately terminal from a stirrup side sheath. Early stirrups were constructed using copper-alloy sheaths which covered the entire sides of the stirrup. Some zoomorphic terminals were cast integrally with the side sheath but others had the terminal cast seperately.

Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A cast copper-alloy mount or stud of unknown date. It is sub-pyramidal with a base that is concave in one plane only but more so at one side than the other. It seems likely that this was to allow it to seat against something curved and tapering. The more concave side has a shallow, linear notch running in from the edge across the base for about 3mm. The pointed tip is not central and leans slightly away from this notched edge. Close to the bottom edge there is a transverse, incised line around three sides, but not the side with the notch. It measures 14.48mm x 12.14mm at the base, is …
