Object type: UNIDENTIFIED OBJECT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A circular disc of gold, with a hand cut 'milled' edge and a piercing through the central flan. The milled edge stands proud of the flan, more so on one side than the other. It is unclear what this item was part of or what it was used for; it might be part of a composite necklace or it may be part of a mount, possibly from a knife handle. It is likely to date after 1716, and therefore falls outside of the remit of The Treasure Act 1996.

Object type: HARNESS FITTING
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete copper alloy loop, possibly related to horse harnesses or cart fittings, such as a terret ring or reign guide. The loop is plain and undecorated but taper in thickness slightly from one surviving terminal to the other. This object is unlikely to be a bracelet because it has an oval cross section, differing to those of bracelets. Due to the object's fragmentary nature, assigning a specific date is not possible, although it is unlikely to date to the prehistoric periods.

Two adjoining sherds (modern break) of a large dish or other wide-based vessel. Sherds retain part of base. Fabric is sandy and hard with a grey inner core and orange coloured outer core. The glaze is a yellow-brown in colour on the interior of the vessel with the remains of a yellow-brown, possibly 'clear' type glaze externally. The vessel is wheel-made and probably dates to the 13th-15th centuries, and is similar to Surrey/Hampshire wares of the period.

A moulded pewter zoomorphic head - either an eagle’s or a raven's head, possibly the handle-mount of a walking stick. The mount is well detailed, having feather detail around the eyes and partly over the beak, although stylistically, only the top half of the beak is represented. A necked circular hole on the underside is likely to have been the mounting point for a walking stick. The hole on the top of the head appears to be secondary, and is probably the reason for the mount's disposal. The object is hollow and weights 65.60gms and measures 72.81mm length, 41.88mm max width, 30.56mm…

An earthenware sherd from the base of a ceramic strainer. This sherd retains six complete straining holes, with the remains of a further 9 around the broken edges of the sherd. The complete strainer pot would have been fired with holes already in the base, then a glaze (in this case a yellow-brown) was poured over the strainer. The glaze dripped through the holes in the base where it coated the inside of the strainer holes, and a small area on the underside of the vessel. The fabric is similar to wares of the Surrey/Hampshire border of the late Medieval period - a similar vessel in …

One of three Roman coins found during gardening works, with this being the only identifiable coin. This coin is in poor condition, but the outline of a bust facing right can be seen on the obverse, and on the reverse are the faint remains of what appears to be a man walking towards the right pulling something behind him. The only similarity to be found is Carson's No. 368, 'GLORIA ROMANORUM' on the reverse which depicts the emperor holding a standard and walking to the right dragging a captive behind him.

A lead alloy pilgrim's ampulla from the shrine of St Thomas Becket at Canterbury from the 13th century. The obverse depicts a four-petalled flower decorated internally with veins and with a pellet in the centre of the flower.
