A fragment of a copper-alloy strap-end of medieval date. A small part of the body of the strap-end survives, with a terminal in the shape of a three-dimensional human head with stylised features. The head is sub-ovoid with incised dots for eyes and a linear groove representing the mouth. The hair and a possible head-dress, hat or helmet are cast in moulded relief. A copper-alloy gilded buckle frame dating to the thirteenth or fourteenth century AD. The buckle frame is rectangular in plan and section. The outer edge of the buckle frame is circular in section around which is looped a copper-roller which is constructed from sheet metal. At the other end, the frame extends to a body which comprises two waisted ovals, which are hemispherical in section. The first oval possesses a circular perforation. Remants of gilding are visible around the piercing. The object measures 29mm in length, 12mm in width and a maximum of 4mm in thickness.
