Zoomorphic design, possibly the head of a dog. The 'head' has a neck which appears to have been damaged, where the knife handle was set. The shape of this base is oval. On this base is traces of iron, i.e.. The blade. The style of the head is similar to representations of medieval hunting dogs.

Consists of two rectangular plates which has a corner removed at one end, and between the two plates is a forked spacer, which has a moulded protruding acorn knop. Two plates are held together by copper alloy rivets. Remains of leather is visible. Decoration on one plate is an incised 'X' with a punched zigzag design.
