A worn copper-alloy Roman sestertius of Commodus (AD 175-192), probably dating to the period AD 184-186 (Reece period 9). Reverse type depicting Victory standing right setting with both hands on a palm tree a round shield inscribed VO/[DE], S-C in the field. Mint of Rome. For the reverse type Cf. RIC III p. 417 no. 449a, p.421 nos. 472, 474; BMC p. 806, no. 584. The surface of the coin appears to have patches of rectangular indentations across it. These were made in antiquity as the patina covers their surface.
