A silver annular brooch whose frame is oval in section. The frame has a small constriction which shows sign of wear. The pin is missing. The surface of the frame has a slightly shiny mid grey colour due to tarnishing. A parallel to this brooch can be found in Egan and Pritchard (2002, No. 1307) which is made from copper alloy, whereas No. 1337 is silver but has decoration. These brooches date to the 13th to 14th century. Late Iron Age to early Roman (c.AD 0 to c. 100) cast copper alloy La Tene I brooch. The brooch is cast as one piece. The spring is coiled with four coils with the terminal of the spring pointing downwards and is broken. The break is possibly quite recent as the patina does not cover the break. The bow is a 'C' shape in profile and is oval in section which increases slightly towards the apex and tapers towards the lower portion of the bow. The lower portion of the bow forms the…

Post Medieval trade token of James Beale, Mercer of Hook Norton, Oxfordshire. Williamson No. 105. Dickenson No. 105. Trade tokens were issued between 1648 and 1672 at a time when there was little low denomination coinage being issued by the crown. As a result traders and business proprietors began issuing tokens as an alternate coinage with equivalent denominations of a farthing, half penny or penny. Such trade tokens rarely travel far from their place of issue and provide an insight to the trade of the time. In 1672 regal copper coinage was introduced and the trade tokens were th…
