Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Probable Mesolithic to early Bronze Age (8000 - 1000BC) retouched flake: The flint flake is triangular and knapped from a matte mottled light grey flint or chert. The ventral surface does not have a bulb or percussion and conchoidal ripples are not visible. The dorsal surface has a convex surface with abrupt, short, re-touch occurring long one edge. Another edge has two small notches knapped from the dorsal surface. The flake measures 27.73mm long, 23.3mm wide, 7.52mm thick and weighs 3.68g. Retouched flakes are difficult to date as they are present throughout prehistory. Thus,…

The dorsal surface has three vertical scars and the dorsal surface one. The dorsal surface has conchoidal ripples, low bulb of percussion and bulbar scars. The flake is knapped from flint which is a light brown colour which is developing a mottled light grey patina. It measures 21.45mm long, 18.48mm wide, 4.54mm thick and weighing 1.83g. 2.The flake is a secondary flake with cortex along one lateral straight edge. The other edge is co…

Mesolithic to Neolithic (c. 7000 to 2350 BC) debitage: Two flakes knapped from flint. 1.The flake is knapped from a white/grey coloured flint which has a waxy texture. There is a small patch of white patina suggesting the flake has been knapped from a larger, older flake. It is trapezoidal with two vertical scars on the dorsal surface, and at least five scars on the ventral surface which are perpendicular to those on the dorsal surface. There is a small striking platform. It measures 22.45mm long, 15.58mm wide, 6.88mm thick and weighing 2.18g. 2.The flake is a sedonday flake wi…

Early Mesolithic to early Neolithic (8000 to 3500 BC) flint flake, which is an elongated triangle in plan and in section. The ventral surface has a small bulb of percussion, bulbar scar and conchoidal ripples. The dorsal surface has two vertical scars three other smaller scars. The laterial edges feel as if there are serrated, but this is probably due to damage rather than intention. The flint has a mottled dark to light grey colour. The flake measures 17.63mm in length, 11.26mm width, is 3.75mm thick and weighs 0.49g.

A secondary flake of light grey coloured debitage or segment implement of probable Mesolithic to Neolithic date (c. 10,000 - 2351 BC). The flake is rectangular and trapezoidal in section, but is perhaps too thick to be a blade. The distal end tapers at one corner and is broken. It measures 27.76mm in length, 11.72mm in width, 5.32mm thick and weighs 1.98grams. Butler (2005) illustrates a similar implement on Figure 46, No. 7. The ventral surface has a small bulb of percussion, and conchoidal ripples. The dorsal surface has three main vertical scars three other smaller scars. The distal end of the dorsal surface has a trace of a thick yellow patina suggesting the flake was taken from an older worked flint item. The flint is otherwise a mottled dark to light grey with a light brown colour. Along both lateral edges, on the dorsal surface there is slight re-t…

Mesolithic (10,000 to 4,000BC) core: The core is cylindrical with a sub-oval section. The core appears to be used to short, narrow blades and has two striking platforms, one either end. One side face has a small patch of cortex which has been mainly been removed. There is some recent abrasion and crazing at each terminal edge. The flint is a dark grey colour. The core measures 30.42mm long, 31.56mm wide, is 24.49mm thick and weighs 28.47g. The core dates to the Mesolithic period, based on the small blade scars.

Mesolithic to early Neolithic (-8300 to -2900) probable knife or blade: The implement has been knapped from the flint core. The dorsal surface has a central vertical scar and then the lateral edges have a vertical scar also. The distal end is rounded due to retouch on both faces. At this end, on the dorsal surface there is a patch of cortex. The ventral surface has a bulb of percussion, conchoidal ripples and striking platform. At the proximal end, next to the bulb of percussion there is possibly a notch which has been knapped, or it is recent damage, it is uncertain which. One latera…

Mesolithic to Neolithic (83000 - 6500BC) debitage in the form of a knapped flint tertiary flake or blade: The ventral face has conchoidal ripples, but the bulb of percussion, proximal end, is missing due to a perpendicular scar. The dorsal surface has multiple, a wide, deep scar which is perpendicular (horizontal) to the flake. This forms a concave shape edge. The other lateral edge has a vertical scar and another flake which has been removed from the edge, forming an angular right-angled edge. The distal end forms a > in profile and is possibly retouched on the dorsal surface. The fl…
