A tang and handle end of possibly a Roman iron or steel sword. The whole object is 118mm in length and highly corroded resulting in most of the length being missing. It has a square sectioned tang, 67.5mm in length, 7.5mm at its widest gradually tapering down to 4.5mm at its corroded tip. On one surface there appears to be a slight ridge continuing the line of the tang but there is much corrosion. At the head of the tang the blade widens to 40mm in a slight arc and two rivets are present, approximately 5mm from the edge, probably to fix a sword guard in place. The blade then tapers d…
