A contemporary copy of a silver Roman denarius of Hadrian, ALEXANDRIA reverse depicting Alexandria standing left, holding sistrum and snake in basket. The coin combines the obverse portrait and reverse type for Hadrian (RIC II, no. 300, struck Rome, AD 136) with the obverse legend of his sucessor Antoninus Pius (ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP). The coin therefore dates between AD 138-192 but is assigned to Hadrian in this record.
