Discussion
Treasure reference 2018 T258: a Middle Saxon silver gilt pin. The head is globular, solid, and decorated with four deep channels radiating from the apex, dividing the head into four convex pointed oval panels. Each channel is flanked by a much narrower channel. An integral shank of circular section extends from the base. The shank is broken shortly after it leaves the base. The break is patinated and worn, suggesting the break occured in antiquity.

A Roman copper alloy pin. The pin has a flat reeled head, below which are three faceted globular knops each separated by a reel. Each knop and reel tapers in size towards the shank. Below the final reel are four circular moulded bands from the bottom of which extends a shank of circular section. The shank extends circa 23.7mm and appears to be more or less complete. The shank has a shallow bend to it half the way down which appears to be intentional rather than damage.
Length: 61mm, Diameter: 8.5mm. The shank diameter is 2.2mm at its upper end and is 23.7mm in length.

Treasure number 2017 T815: a post-medieval silver-gilt terminal, perhaps for a dress fitting such as a pin. The terminal is formed from two hollow conical elements soldered together. Each cone made from thin silver sheet, and decorated with filigree spirals, mouldings and knops in an architectural manner. Diameter at centre 11 mm, weight: 2.23g. Both ends have a small circular opening of circa 1mm diameter.
The filigree decoration with its architectural elements echoes that on ball-headed pins and would seem to suggest a 16th Century date. Similar biconical terminals are recorded a…
