An elaborate Middle Saxon glass amulet or mount. The object is circular in plan, and plano-convex in section. The body is made of a dark purple/black coloured glass, and is decorated on the domed surface with seven lines of twisted coloured glass radiating from the centre. The area at the centre where they merge is somewhat muddled, suggesting that each of the seven strands were laid in sequence and pushed together at the top. Approximately one third of an Anglo-Saxon glass bead or spindle whorl, probably used as an amulet. The object was originaly circular in plan and plano-convex in cross-section. It has a circular hole through the centre measuring 7mm diameter. The object is made from opaque, blue/black glass and is decorated with a superficial layer of opaque, white glass combed into an arcaded design in eight fields (probably therefore 16 in total when complete).
