Broken conical blue glass bead with repeated inlaid white dot with inner red dot decoration along the face. This is Guido's type 6xiii, blue beads with red-centred white eyes, found in Cambs, Kent, Hants, Norfolk and Suffolk (Guido 1999, 273 and pl. 5). It is not immediately apparent to which Brugmann Group this bead type should belong; it is not Dot Regular, which has monochrome dots, but it may be Mosaic. Although Mosaic beads are supposed to belong to Brugmann's Group A2b (dating to 530-580), one Guido parallel was found at Brandon in Suffolk, a settlement site which dates from t…

Post-medieval glass witch-bottle and contents. The glass bottle has a wide flat base with a twisted and fluted narrow neck, which is broken around the rim. The size and form of the base and neck indicates that the vessel was originally an inkwell or a small ornamental candle-holder, the former being more likely. The vessel has a seam running up the side, indicating that it was made in a mould. This would also indicate a date of c. 1820 onwards. Inside the vessel was found a small number of corroded iron and copper-alloy objects, and a single strip of leather. The leather is a strap…

Incomplete glass phial. The bottle has a bulbous body with a concave base. The glass is colourless with a greenish tint. The neck is short and cylindrical and is broken just before the rim. One part of the upper neck starts to flare outwards suggesting that the rim would have been slightly everted. The diameter of the neck is 15mm, and its length is 11mm. The interior surface of the phial has a mottled, almost oil-like refractive patina.
