Fragment of a glass monochrome globular beaker, probably dating to the late 8th or 9th century. The fragment comprises a section of rim and body. The rim is circular in section and has a pronounced ridge on the interior where it meets the interior wall. On the exterior, the rim blends smoothly with the vessel wall. The body is decorated with three transverse lines; the centre one is formed by two lines that have a small gap between them. The body is made of a dark purple/black coloured glass, and is decorated on the domed surface with seven lines of twisted coloured glass radiating from the centre. A conical bi-chrome glass stud slightly taller than it is wide, width 16.5-17.5 mm, height 18mm, on a clay core. The glass is opaque grey to off-white and deep blue, semi-opaque and worked in a feathered pattern and wrapped around a fired clay core, visible at the base. The base diameter would fit a substantial setting and it would have projected for some distance. The top appears quite smooth and unchipped and the whole weighs 6.34g. Broken conical blue glass bead with repeated inlaid white dot with inner red dot decoration along the face. This is Guido's type 6xiii, blue beads with red-centred white eyes, found in Cambs, Kent, Hants, Norfolk and Suffolk (Guido 1999, 273 and pl. 5). It is not immediately apparent to which Brugmann Group this bead type should belong; it is not Dot Regular, which has monochrome dots, but it may be Mosaic.
