Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Nottinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A medieval lead seal matrix. The seal was pointed oval, but only approximately one third survives. The break is set at an angle, and comprises a very neat, clean cut, suggesting that it was done intentionally to void the seal at the end of its life. The seal is decorated with what appears to have been a lis in the centre. This is contained within a neat perimeter. The legend surrounding it reads +S'R[ ]:DEREL'. An integral stud extends from the apex on the reverse.
