Object type: FOB
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Bedford

A 'gem' set fob in a copper alloy cast bezel. The gem or glass is purplish red and is a radiant cut but has no intaglio or seal matrix cut in it. The bezel band is decorated with a floral motif with a raised ridge at the top which has a pattern of radiating lines around it. There is some evidence of gilding. Though there is no attachment moulding remaining, it is likely that the item was part of a fob decoration, and would have featured an attached decorative plate with a loop, which could have been used to secure the fitting to a fob for decoration.
