An incomplete copper alloy pipe tamper dating to the post medieval period. The tamper is cyclindrical, with a flared, flat base and two broken attachments at the other end. The base is inscribed with the initials 'W R' with trifoliate deocoration above and below the letters. The shaft is decorated with three raised moulded collars. The metal is worn and dark green in colour. The object is 17.4 mm long, 8.6 mm wide, and 8.0 mm thick. It weighs 5.0 g. Pipe tampers were used to flatten down tobacco in a pipe in order to ensure that it burnt evenly and drew properly.

The strap end is sub-ovate in shape with a zoomorphic terminal at the closed end and an open split terminal at the attachment end.
