A Post Medieval copper alloy incomplete buckle (1600-1650). This is a double-looped buckle with moulded rosettes on the outer edges and lobes at the junctions between the frame and the cross bar. The pin is missing. A very similar buckle is illustrated by Margeson (1993:30 no.174) and dated to 1600-1650. Dimensions: length: 44.31mm; width: 26.06mm; thickness: 2.04mm; weight: 6.44g. An incomplete Early Medieval cast gilded silver keystone garnet disc brooch, comprising one half of the original disc, broken off across the central line. The pin is missing, but the broken remains of the pierced integral pin lug and catch-plate survive on the back of the brooch, perpendicular to the edge. The surviving decoration on the front of the brooch comprises two (of potentially three) keystone cloisonné settings (one partially broken) containing red stones, presumably garnets, backed by hatched gold foils. An incomplete Lower Palaeolithic small, bifacially worked, flint handaxe of cordate type dating c. 400,000-150,000BC. The handaxe was found on the foreshore and consequently is rolled and abraded with a small amount of edge damage. There is invasive soft hammer flaking covering both faces. The butt and mid portion of the axe is thick and it then tapers to a rounded point. The cross section is lentoid (pointed oval). The flint has an orange patina. An incomplete Roman silver finger ring dating 3rd - 4th century AD. The finger ring has an oval raised bezel with decorative angular shoulders. The gem stone or glass setting is missing from the bezel but there are the remains of a white cement surviving. The angular shoulders are decorated with three stamped chevrons. The band has a rounded triangular cross-section and the profile of the finger ring shows the band forming an oval. There is a crack through the band opposite the centre of the bezel. A Post Medieval silver box dating to the mid - late 18th century. This box was probably a snuff box or a patch box but Hazel Forsyth believes a snuff box is more likely. The box is oval in plan with curved walls. The lid is hinged and there are two oval facets; one on each side wall. These oval facets are plain without the engraved decoration that covers the rest of the surface. A composite gold button consisting of a flat disc with applied septfoil decoration on one face and a drawn wire loop attachment on the other. The decoration takes the form of a flower and is made up of a central knop where the seven ‘petals’, made of thin sheets of gold, join. A complete Roman bone hair pin dating to AD 150 - 400. The hair pin is a Greep type B1.1 and Crummy type 3. The head is spherical. The pin shaft tapers to join the head and bulges outwards as it moves away and then tapers again towards a point.
