A Prehistoric, probably Neolithic, flint core tablet probably dating 3500-2100BC. The dorsal surface has approximately 3 flake removal scars but later damage is obscuring the surface. There is a lot of working around the edges which would have been the flake removal edges of the core. The flint is pale - mid grey. A Prehistoric flint scraper. This is a secondary flake with approximately 10% of the cortex remaining on the dorsal surface and approximately 1% on the ventral surface. There are several flake removal scars on the dorsal surface but some of these will be due to later damage. The flake is roughly triangular in plan with the butt forming a point and the proximal end forming a wide edge. There is some retouch along the proximal edge. A Roman ceramic rim sherd from a Verulamium region white ware mortarium with maker's stamp dating AD50-140. This sherd includes part of the hooked flange and the section of the rim with a maker's stamp. The stamp is unclear it may read "FECIT" or "LEG-" within a herringbone border. The fabric is very mud-stained but originally would have been the distinctive white fabric. Dimensions: weight: 161.84g. A Post Medieval pottery fragment of a Tudor terracotta architectural carving dating 1520-1540. This is a corner fragment with part of two finished sides. The front surface is carved with a symmetrical foliate pattern. Traces of mortar remain on the edges and reverse surface. Ian Betts notes that it was almost certainly made somewhere in the London area. A Medieval lead alloy buckle (early 15th century). The buckle has a circular buckle frame with a central cross-bar. The frame is decorated with a raised, bevelled band along the centre of the frame and beading around the edge. The cross-bar has a central groove with a ridge on either side to secure the pin. These two ridges do not extend on the upper edge of the cross-bar. The pin is made from iron wire wrapped around the cross-bar for attachment. A Post Medieval copper alloy finger ring with buckle design (dating 17th century). The finger ring is constructed from a strip of copper alloy cast to resemble a strap with buckle. The ring is then curved round to form the right shape and the end of the strap is threaded through the buckle. A small rounded projection in the middle of the strip secures the strip and possibly also represents the buckle pin. A Roman pottery rim sherd from a vessel, a Samian decorated bowl dating to the mid 1st – mid 2nd century. This bowl may be Dragendorff 30 or 37; it has an upright bead rim and vertical walls. There is a glossy dark red slip on both external and internal surfaces. The slip is slightly darker on the external surface. The fabric is typically red throughout with few mica inclusions. A complete Post Medieval iron padlock with rotary mechanism (AD 17th century). The lock is semi-circular in plan with the front and back plates projecting to form a semi-circular tab on one of the upper corners. Both tabs are perforated and there is an axis bar around which the locking arm rotates. Also attached to the back plate tab there is a small rotating arm which appears to be connected with the axis bar and may lock the arm in position either open or closed. This is a Forsyth & Egan (2005) Type 8 Design 1: a multi-component watch with a plain case, angular profile and integrally cast pendant loop. A Roman pottery rim sherd from a vessel probably a jar of probably Mica-dusted ware dating from the 1st – late 2nd century AD. The sherd shows an upright neck and rim with a red fabric with a thin grey strip in the inner margin. The external and internal surfaces are red with a scattering of mica across the surfaces. Meriel Jeater suggested this vessel might be Mica-dusted ware.
