A fragment of a copper alloy mount, of probable Medieval to Post medieval date, AD 1200 - 1700. It is one end of what was probably a long bar type mount or fitting. The surviving end has a copper alloy rivet in situ, and terminates in an oval loop in the same plane as the bar.It looks just like the frame of a spur buckle except there is no bar or hole for a pin. The upper face is gilded. the reverse is slightly hollow. It is 16.2mm long, 11.5mm wide and 4.4mm thick (rivet) and 1mm thick (plate). 0.7g. The fitting is thin and delicate and could not be used as a functional har…

A copper alloy incomplete mount, probably of medieval date, about AD 1200 - 1400, but fairly undiagnostic. It appears to be one end of a flat rectangular mount, with three complete edges and one broken one. The complete short edge has two small (1mm diameter) rivet holes near the edge. There are faint traces of a raised borderline across the short end, and a pair of similar lines about a third along the mount. The mount is bent and torn, making further identification impossible. It is 28.2mm long, 26.5mm wide and 7.1mm thick as bent. The sheet is 1mm thick. 3.3g. It is possibly&nb…

An incomplete Early Medieval copper alloy mount dating from AD 700 - 850. The object is roughly rectangular, broken at one end, and has two rivet holes, one in each corner and a larger perforation in what would have been the centre, now by the break. The front of the plate is decorated with a cross in relief dividing the surviving part into two fields. Each field is filled with single strand, slender interlace patterns in relief. Gilding survives in the recessed areas. The larger circular hole is surrounded by a ring shaped groove. There is a small, roughly circular partch of iron, pe…

A circular, copper alloy mount, or perhaps a maker's name plaque, of Post Medieval or Modern date, about AD 1800 - 1950. It has a single, horizontal line of cursive script in the centre which is surrounded by a legend in smaller capitals in Roman script. Both types of script are now fairly illegible, though the cursive word may say 'Yeedes' or 'Weedles', perhaps the name of a business, and some of the Roman capitals above may be BES. Two very small, flat, rectangular projections or tabs are visible on the rim at 4 o'clock and 7 o'clock on the front face. The reverse of the mount …

A cast copper alloy post-medieval harness mount or strap fitting, dating from AD 1500 - 1900. The mount is oval in plan and has a domed front. The surface is decorated with radiating grooves and the spaces between them are convex. The reverse shows no evidence of decoration but retains the remnants of the iron rivets. These are placed in the centre of two thicker platforms, one at each end of the mount. These leave a recessed area between them where a strap could slide. A Medieval silver gilt mount depicting a knight emerging from a snail shell on the back of a quadruped, probably a goat, probably dating from AD 1200 - 1350. The mount has a flat reverse and moulded front. In the centre of the reverse is a short circular integral rivet with a slightly burred end. There are also many striations on the reverse, in different directions, perhaps suggesting a cuttlefish shell casting, but they are not characteristically curved, and are probably also the result of filing. The probable goat has a long wavy wool coat, and is depicted lying with its …

The front is decorated with an incised design in the shape of a cross saltire with a border double of incised lines. There appears to be a raised knop or pellet in each of the areas created by the incised cross. The underside is flat. An incomplete copper alloy strap fitting or mount possibly from a sword belt fitting dating from the Post Medieval period, circa AD 1500-1700. The artefact consists of a sub rectangular flat plate with one long uneven edge without protrusions which is probably an old break. The two shorter sides have two small pointed protrusions below a large rounded lobe on either side (they are biconcave). A corroded, copper alloy mount of Medieval date, about AD 1200 - 1400. It is roughly shield shaped with a straight upper edge and convex sides, tapering towards the lower part of the mount where the taper becomes straighter, suggesting that the bottom part of the mount, which has broken away and is missing, may have been rounded rather than pointed. In the centre of the upper edge is a projecting rectangle of metal, pierced with a circular hole to accept a mounting rivet, now missing.
