The ingot is short cigar-shaped with a smooth upper surface and a pitted lower one which appears to have been slightly flattened; length, 35mm. A large number of silver ingots of the Viking period have been found mainly in hoards in England, Ireland and the Netherlands, as well as in Scandinavia. Silver ingots from the region of the Danelaw were probably used as bullion in payments or trade transactions.
