A fragment probably from a late Roman cast copper-alloy bracelet. The fragment is curved in plan. It is broadly semicircular in cross-section as revealed at the breaks; neither terminal is present. The shallowly convex upper surface is decorated simply with transverse incisions, now faint as a result of wear. The object now has a variable mid-green patina with only some corrosion. Black lacquer is visible on both faces.

County: Hampshire

A fragment from a cast copper-alloy knobbed bracelet (bangle or armlet) probably dating from the late Hallstatt period to the late Iron Age (c. 800 BC - 43 AD). The bracelet consists of a curved rod formed of four globular 'beads' or knops (c. 6.3mm thick) with rounded ridged collars (c. 4.65mm thick). Two of the collars have two ridges, the last extant collar has three. One ridge from a collar survives at either end before the old breaks. The rod is sub-circular in cross section. The reverse is plain and flat at its centre; it bevels towards the sides. The bracelet appears to have a …

A cast copper-alloy probable bracelet of late Roman date. This bevelled bracelet has been formed from a strip of copper alloy that has a lozengeform cross-section. The bracelet was probably made for a child due to its small diameter. There does not appear to be a clasp mechanisim although the terminals have been bent slightly upwards for decoration. It is slightly bent inwards at one terminal and is bent inwards at a fourty-five degree angle in the other, the outer surface has a variable green patina with some patches of more invasive, lighter corrosion product.

Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Hampshire

A post-medieval fragment of twisted silver wire with thistle-shaped gilt finial, approximately 4.0 cm long. The object, which has been examined by a number of British Museum curators in different fields, is hard to place and no parallels have yet been found for it. The thistle-shaped terminal is reminiscent of those on late 15th Century silver spoons, but these lack the twisted wire. A tentative dating to the 16th Century is proposed here until further evidence comes to light.
