A complete cast copper-alloy 13th- or 14th-century medieval bar-mount with pendent loop. The upper surface of the bar mount is rectangular in plan and trapezoidal in cross-section. The bar narrows at its base and is looped back on itself, terminating in a square stop which is joined to the front section of bar (and, originally, through the belt) by a single copper-alloy rivet which survives. The pendant sits within the loop at the bottom of the bar and is quadrilobate in form. The edge from which it hangs is flattened. The surfaces of the pendent are bevelled externally and feature fi…

A slightly corroded cast copper-alloy medieval bar mount, sub-hemispherical in form. The central lobe is decorated with five transverse grooves which do not quite run across the whole of the semi-circular form. The two smaller side lobes are recessed on the lower surface; their rivets are extant. The recessed lower surface of the main lobe is undecorated, the reverse is flat and one end has been bent upwards in profile. The artefact has a grey/green patina; there is slight corrosion on the rivet. A similar example can be found illustrated in Read (2001, 23; ref. 151).

An incomplete cast copper-alloy post-medieval convex mount, probably a harness mount. The mount is quatrefoil in design consisting of a central boss with protruding spokes with an openwork design. The boss is square in shape; from each side radiates a spoke connecting the boss to the outer design. The boss is delineated by incised lines. The spokes terminate in fleurs-de-lis that are conjoined; this makes for a heart-shaped openwork. The central element of each lis protrudes in a lobed knop. The radiating spokes and the outer design are trapezoidal in cross section; the lower surface …

A slightly corroded elaborate cast copper-alloy object: a strap-fitting possibly relating to a medieval sword-belt hook. The broadly U-shaped object has a hook at one end and a loop at the other. The loop's sub-rectangular slot was presumably for a leather strap. After the curve the other part of the strap-fitting straightens, becoming parallel with the loop. It ends by turning through ninety degrees to face the loop, albeit just above. The outer surface of the other part is bevelled along its length and through the curve. It is decorated with two transverse ridges at the widest point…

An incomplete cast copper alloy medieval strap fitting, probably from a sword belt (c. 16th century AD). The artefact consists of a rectangular 'eye' and an integral loop. There is no decoration on the majority of the artefact with some horizontal incisions adjacent to the integral loop, a similar example can be found in Read, 2001, ref 371.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy strap fitting of post-medieval date. The fitting has a flat back and front with bevelled sides and a thickened lobed knop at one end. The knop has a domed top and flat back. Above the knop is a double raised collar with a groove between. Above the collars is a constriction then a ring with a large circular central hole; the ring. Above the ring is another constriction then it widens to an end bar; in the constricted area is a central circular hole. The horizontal bar is divided into two by a transverse groove and has been bent upwards slightly at one en…

A slightly corroded cast copper-alloy strap fitting with hooked element of post-medieval date (c. 1550 - c. 1700 AD). The artefact tapers to a knobbed terminal with ridged collar, and curves round to lozengiform terminal. The upper surface of the fitting has two parallel longitudinal grooves running inside two transverse grooves, in line with the lozengiform terminal; there is a transverse ridge above. The strap fitting generally has a semicircular cross-section with a flat reverse; above the moulding the cross-section flattens with the lozengiform terminal attaining a rectangular cro…

A complete cast copper-alloy early post-medieval toggle-clasp. The artefact consists of sub-triangular plate which terminates in a toggle; the two are joined by a curved shank. The attachment end is cusped and has a central rivet hole; this is now filled with orange-brown corrosion product. On each side, in the corners, is a punched recess which appears to be purely decorative. The upper surface of the body is decorated with four longitudinal grooves. The plate tapers to a projecting, ridged and ribbed collar at its base; this is decorated with transverse incisions. On the lower surf…

A slightly corroded post-medieval copper-alloy hooked mount. The central portion of the mount is sub-oval in plan and domed, with a hollow underside. It tapers towards the hook. Extending upwards from the top is rounded lobe which has a central rivet hole (the rivet is missing), a transverse ridge at its base and a long, rounded projection at the top. At the base of the mount is a transverse ridge above a backward-facing hook; the hook has been bent slightly to one side. There is a copper-alloy and integral, rivet on the lower surface. A similar mount is illustrated by Read (2008, 227…
