A cast copper-alloy medieval to post-medieval chafing dish drop handle. In plan, the handle frame is sub-trapezoidal with rounded corners, the frame is rectangular in cross-section. It has three concave sides and one shorter straight side that around which is a copper-alloy attachment lug. The attachment lug is sub-oval in plan and rectangular in cross-section (25.4 by 15.5 by 9.3mm). It has a short circular rivet with shoulders above at the end that secured it to the side of the dish. The frame has a dark-grey patina with some areas of green corrosion product, as is the lug. There…

A cast lead pot mend to repair a base, used to mend a Roman Central Gaulish black-slipped ware vessel dating to the late 2nd-century in order to lengthen the period of use after damage had occurred. It is broadly sub-oval in plan with a broadly flat base. The central section of the base has a concave recess. Three fragments of a Central Gaulish black-slipped ware rim or base are visible (the largest fragment is 28.7mm in length and 9.25mm high). The fragments could be from a rim of a base, the latter is more likely are the repair would have rendered the vessel unusable if the visible …

The base of the foot is irregular with a relatively flat section. The front face has a large vertical D shaped rib extending from the broken top to the base. The reverse of the foot is irregular in shape.

A copper-alloy pot leg of Medieval to early post-Medieval date. The steeply-angled leg has a broadly oval cross section with slightly flattened sides. the foot is flat at the bottom and widens towards the tip. A parallel for this leg - suggested to be from a small cauldron, ewer or jug - was found in excavations in Winchester (Biddle 1990: 956/fig. 293, no. 3397), in a late 15th to early 16th century context. Another similar leg came from an early 15th century context in London (Egan 1998: 166/fig. 132, no. 459) and is recorded as probably being part of a tripod ewer.

A corroded and bent, plain copper-alloy sheet rivet which would have been used to hold repairs to a vessel in place. The artefact is sub-rectangular in form, having originally been broadly hexagonal. It have been folded in on themselves from the sides before being folded back, the folds protruding beyond the side, one side is incomplete. Similar examples found in Norwich tend to be found in post-medieval contexts (Margeson 1993, 92-93; refs. 574, 575).

A zoomorphic cast copper-alloy spout probably from a ewer of later medieval or early post-medieval date. The spout is tubular and terminates in a dog's head with open mouth; the tube spout protrudes from the open mouth (internal diameter: c. 5.55mm). At the other end it curves through ninety degrees downwards, and expands into a long, pointed neck where it would have joined the vessel (it is teardrop shaped in cross-section). The surface that would have joined is covered in file marks. The head has a moulded nose, prominent, squared brow, and rectangular grooved ears that protrude sli…

A large, slightly bent crude cast lead pot-mend, with off-centre perforation (9mm by 4.8mm). No sherds have been retained within the slot making dating difficult. The lower surface is very rough; the upper surface has contraction marks probably a result of cooling, as well as a separation of a central from the rim probably for the same reason.
