A very corroded fragment possibly from a pair of medieval or post-medieval cast iron shears. The single-edged iron blade has a short section of the tang remaining. The shape of the blade where it meets the tang is semicircular and suggests that this could be one blade from a pair of shears. Similar shears can be seen illustrated in Margeson (1993, 134; fig. 99), mostly of post-medieval date, although they are difficult to distinguish from medieval ones (see Cowgill et al. 1987).
