An incomplete and damaged copper-alloy medieval sheet buckle plate. Half of the plate survives; it would have been created from a broadly rectangular strip twice the length. It is broadly trapezoidal and narrows slightly at the attachment end (W.: 15.6mm). The other end is recessed to accommodate the frame and has broken at this weak point. There is a central notch for the pin at this end; the tabs curve round, one is incomplete. A central perforation towards the attachment end would have held an iron pin judging by the orange/brown corrosion product around it on the lower surface. Th…

A fragment from a medieval cast copper-alloy single-looped buckle frame consisting of the outer edge and the beginnings of the sides. The ornate outer edge features a pair large knops flanking a constriction for an extant sheet roller. The knops are delineated from the inner part of the outer edge by grooves on both faces. This narrows into the sides, both broken and vestigial, one slightly longer than the other. The buckle frame now has a dark-green patina. A buckle of similar construction can be found illustrated in Griffiths et al. (2007, 95; ref. 590).
