Description Decorative gold stirrup-shaped ring. It has a small bezel for a small blue sapphire, en cabochon. The hoop is of D-shaped cross-section (flat internally). The internal hoop diameter is 19.4 x 20 mm (very slightly misshapen). Minimum band width 2.6 mm; minimum band thickness 0.7mm; weight 3.22g. The ring has not undergone any cleaning or conservation. Decorative gold ring with a projecting oval bezel of lunate form, set with a small uncut (en cabochon) turquoise. There is a small transverse gold ledge on each side of the bezel at the junction with the hoop, decorated with parallel engraved lines ('combed' fashion). This is a complete and small penannular ring (or 'hair-ring') decorated with gold foil and a silvery gold inlayed strip. It appears that the gold foil was wrapped around a copper core, and around this, in continuous spiral fashion a silvery gold strip was inlayed, to provide a striped colour effect. The stripes are wide, with four silvery gold inlayed stripes and five gold foil stripes evident around the ring. A slightly tapering gold tube with coiled wire decoration attached to it near the wider end and about two-thirds of the way down. The wider end is closed by a flat plate, secured from coming out by the ends of the tube being bent over. The plate now sits at an angle, with one side pushed slightly down the tube, but it would appear that it originally sat square to the end of the tube.
