County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Published
Large scraper made from an opaque, grey-brown flint with some inclusions. There is a small area of cortex at one end. Both the dorsal and ventral faces show signs of a conchoidal fracture although the scars are weakly defined and may reflect natural fracture. Retouch extends across the upper right hand side of the flint (as shown) and down the right hand side. This is short, scaled and abrupt/semi-abrupt. There is also some limited retouch along the left hand edge. Length 110.8mm, Width 59.1mm, Thickness 29.3mm, Mass 182.36g.

County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Published
Flint scraper of late prehistoric date. Fragment of a light grey, opaque flint cobble, cortex surviving in one area. The cobble was broken by natural agencies and was recorticated before being retouched to form two scraping edges; one a deep notch, the other a crude, straight edge. both were made using short, scaled, abrupt retouch. Both the use of a naturally broken flint and the crudity of the retouch point to a late date. 31.6 x 27.3 x 15.6mm, Mass 16.35g

Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age flint knife, made from blade of opaque Lincolnshire Wolds flint/ Dorsal face flat, showing the use of a soft hammer. Ventral face bears two main facets and at one end is an area of neat retouch, invasive, sub-parallelled, low angle. The knife has been burned and its surfaces are covered with craze-cracking. This burning suggests the presence of a hearth in the immediate area. Length 36.2mm, Width 24.1mm, Thickness 6.0mm, Mass 5.08g.

Neolithic to Iron Age, c. 4000-600BC, retouched flint flake, opaque, mottled white and pale grey tertiary flint, retouch, short, scaled, semi abrupt along one side. Length 32.5mm, Width 18.6mm, Thickness 6.0mm, Mass 3.60g. Other than the retouch the flint shows no other signs of working suggesting that it represents the opportunistic use of a natural flint characteristic of later Prehistory.

Flint scraper, light brown opaque, flint, wedge-shaped section, retouched in two areas, around the curved edge, (short, scaled, abrupt) and inside a concave edge (short, scaled, abrupt). The retouch is coarse and that on the concave edge has been damaged by battering. Length 33.0mm, Width 20.7mm, Thickness 8.4mm, Mass 5.72g. This object is difficult to date but the crudeness of the working suggests a date in the Late Neolithic or Bronze Age.
