Record ID: NLM-DA7151
Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Fragment of an Irish openwork mount, originally hexagonal, but now incomplete. Decoration consists of four beasts arranged around a central roundal, each with its jaws gripping its neighbour. The beasts' bodies are made up of strips, each bearing a band of angled lines, with associated tendrils. Spiral hip joints are clearly shown as are three-toed feet. This object was discovered and reported initially in October 2000; this record perhaps dates to around the time of its acquisition by the North Lincolnshire Museum.
