Medieval cast copper alloy mace head. The lower part of the head is cylindrical with a small moulding around the 22.7mm diameter socket opening. The cylinder develops into a pentagonal section along each angle of which is a 53mm long row of five, pyramidical projections, the intervening spaces being plain. At the top of the mace is a 12mm diameter hole opening into the socket. On one side of the socket cylinder is a 3mm diameter hole which would have allowed the head to be fixed to the handle.
