Object type: BLADE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Conwy
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An iron blade with a riveted spike at one end. There are patches of what appears to be white paint on one face of the blade which is thin and narrow and has a flattened diamond-shape cross section. The object is complete, the tip has not been broken off.
Considered too light and narrow for a dagger or rapier and the rivet and spike don't support its interpretation as such either. Possibly a hunting or decorative object of the 19th or 20th century. Object is complete and the paint is likely to be original (comments from Mark Redknap and Mark Lodwick, National Museum of Wales).
