A silver groat, probably of Mary I (1553-1554). Both the obverse and reverse of the coin are heavily worn with only some details visible. Around the edge of the coin there has been loss of material.
The obverse is very smooth with no detail of the bust visible. Only one letter of the legend is visible which appears to be an 'R'. On the reverse the top right corner of the royal shield is visible. Part of the reverse inscription is legible: 'ERITA' and 'EM'. This fits with the inscription on a Mary I silver groat as stated in North no. 1960 (1991: 126).
