The coin is in relatively good condition and is not very worn. The diameter of the coin is 10.95mm, th…

Cut and broken farthing of an uncertain medieval ruler dating to the period 1180 - 1247 AD. The coin was a penny which has been cut in quarters during the time of its use to effectively make it a lower denomination. One of the edges along which the coin has been cut is straight while the other is jagged. Around the edge, within a border created by a line of beading approximately halfway down the obverse face, two letters of an inscription can be made out: one of the letters is too badly worn to identify, the other is a C. This will have been the name of the king 'HENRICUS REX' (Hen…

Copper-alloy head knob fragment from early medieval Cruciform brooch (c. 450 - 650 AD). The knob is globular with a triangular base separated from the globular top by a depressed neck. A copper-alloy rivet runs down through the middle of the knob from the top; this would have attached the knob to the head of a cruciform brooch. The surface of the knob is chipped and worn in patches while a shiny smooth dark green-brown patina is retained in places. The length of the knob is 17.84mm, the width of the knob is 10.91mm and the thickness of the knob is 10.88m. The weight of the knob is 5.74g.

An incomplete copper-alloy medieval zoomorphic book-fitting, a very chunky example of Howsam type A.1.1, probably dating to c. 1350 - 1450 AD. The object is part of a two-piece book clasp with hinged plate and loop. The plate has been lost, although the hinge bar and loop remain with a small scrap of sheet around the bar. The protruding terminal of the book clasp is in the shape of a beast's head: triangular ridges form the ears, two diamond-shaped grooves the eyes and a wide horizontal ridge at the end of the 'snout' represents a tongue. There is a circular hole through the top of…
