A complete lead alloy pilgrim ampulla of costrel type, similar to DUR-694C08 and with a passing resemblance to DENO-4A4151. Ampullae were bought by pilgrims at holy sites and filled with consecrated water or oil.
The body of the ampulla is decorated with three shields in rectangular borders on either side. The neck is flanked by two right-angled lug arms with square cross-section.
On one side, corrosion has made the design of first two shields unclear. The one on the right contains a "T" shape infilled with narrow diagonal lines. The central shield is topped by an arch of raised…

An incomplete lead ampulla, the neck and both handles being missing, though the stump of one remains at the left of the severed neck. The surface of the object is covered in a layer of powdery lead corrosion. The front is moulded in a series of curvilinear rays giving the impression of a bivalve shell, possibly a scallop, which is often a symbol asssociated with connections to St James of Compostela. The reverse is scratched and pitted and any deliberate marking is obfuscated, but it is possible the back was plain. The design is similar to PUBLIC-B3E28A and NMGW-600111

A complete lead alloy medieval pilgrim's ampulla roughly from AD 1350-1530. The bowl is semi-circular in plan and the neck possibly was ovoid in cross section but is now distorted. The bowl is decorated with a radial eight lobed design, possibly a flower, the four larger lobes having the smaller ones nestled between them. Each other the large lobes is divided end to end by a central vein. Two loop handles are present to either side of the neck.
Ampullae were made for sale to pilgrims visiting pilgrimage sites and would be filled with holy water or other substances. Similar examples…
