A button topper of almost hemispherical curvature. The outer convex surface is marked with an incised rectilinear/geometric pattern resembling a seven pointed star of rough radial symmetry, with 'webbing' between the limbs.
The concave inner surface is corroded and slightly greened, indicating a copper alloy is present.

A Roman denarius, probably a base silver contemporary copy, of the regent Julia Mamaea, mother of the child emperor Severus Alexander (AD 221-35) (Reece Period 11), last of the Severan dynasty. Julia would have a very strong influence over her son's reign up until his murder by his own troops on campaign in the March of AD 235. Prototype Mint of Rome. RIC IV, pt 2, p. 98, cf. no. 343.
