Description The ring is a memento mori ring with a flat bezel in the form of a central square, each side having a projecting semi-circular lobe engraved with a leaf, to form a quatrefoil design. The outer surface of the bezel square is engraved with a death’s head (a skull), inlaid with traces of white enamel, surrounded by the inscription: + Memento Mori, in small neat italic script. An incomplete Roman copper alloy Colchester derivative Polden Hill brooch (Mackreth 2011, 4l, Oddments No. 2059, Plate 48) dating c120-240AD. An incomplete copper alloy palstave from the Middle Bronze Age dating c. 1400-1150BC. The object is broken around the raised stop ridge, just before the narrow blade, which flares out slightly.  The cutting edge of the blade is missing.  Just below the stop ridge is traces of shield shaped decoration. Ed Caswell notes that this could be either secondary or transitional phase (1400-1150 BC) since the blade is quite narrow, but it is difficult to be certain without the haft. Incomplete Broseley Type 2a heel bowl of c1660-1680AD with a fully milled rim and a stem bore of 7/64”. The fabric has some gritty inclusions, indicative of the use of a local Coal Measures clay.  The surface is now rather abraded but does not appear to have been burnished originally.  There is a circular maker’s stamp on the heel containing the initials IS without any other embellishment. Incomplete clay tobacco pipe with a heart shaped heel dating c1660-1690AD. This pipe is of a Broseley area style with a stem bore of 8/64”.  It is made of an off-white fabric, but without any obvious inclusions, and it is rather soft fired, so that the surface has become abraded, and it is not certain whether it was originally burnished or not.  The small heart-shaped mark is also very abraded but contains the initials TC with dots below. A copper alloy harness fitting or hanging mount (fob or dangler) of late Iron Age or early Roman date (c100 BC - AD 80). It is a circular decorative mount with a three armed or triskele design.
