An early Medieval lead-filled copper alloy pan weight, probably dating to c. AD 950-1150. The weight consists of a lead-filled copper alloy sheath; it is circular in plan, with either face decorated with an openwork saltire of two opposing arches. The arches are further elaborated with an incised line following the arc, with the two lines joined at the centre by two further incised transverse lines, creating a central sub-square field, possibly intended as a rudimentary union knot. The weight is discoidal, with a circular plan and rectangular cross section and a raised collar around its circumference on its top face. The wieght is stamped with a crowned A (left raised against an incuse border), a sword, a second A and an ewer (all incuse), indicating that the weight was produced by the Founder's comany in London during the reign of Queen Anne. The underside is slightly concave and shows signs of sooting.
