A Roman silver Denarius of Septimus Severus (AD 193-211), dating to AD 197 (Reece Period 10). MVNIFICENTIA AVG reverse type, depicting an elephant advancing right. Rome Mint. RIC IV(i), pg. 103, no. 100. Small patches of green copper alloy corrosion visible on the surface of the coin would appear to be due to impurities in the silver, rather than an underlying copper alloy core.
