A Late Medieval to Post-Medieval copper alloy dagger chape, probably dating to c. AD 1300-1550. The chape consists of a rolled sheet of copper alloy, with an overlapping join which has then been soldered together, with the latter surviving in situ. The chape has been largely flattened and is missing its tip, lost to an old break. The upper edge of the chape is elaborated with an ornamental band, this edge being crenellated, with each sub-rectangular protrusion containing a series of longitudinal, broadly parallel incised lines.
