A Medieval copper alloy two-piece strap end, probably dating to c. AD 1200-1450. The strap end is tongue shaped in plan, terminating in a squat knop and made of two sheets of copper alloy with the backplate at the terminal end only; the two plates are held together by a crudely punched, seperately made copper alloy rivet. The frontplate is decorated with a pattern of engraved zigzags ('rocker-arm') in a herring bone arrangement. The strapend appears to be broken at the attachment end. That the rivet is punched through the decoration would suggest that it was not original.
