A Late medieval inscribed gold finger ring. The ring consists of a plain band with beaded edges on the exterior face defining a slightly recessed central band. This is inscribed in black letter with the words de bon coer (of good heart), with the words alternating with engraved floral motifs. The interior of the band is plain, with no maker’s or hall marks present on the ring. The surviving portion comprises of the terminal and partially surviving handle, with the bowl missing. The handle terminates in a flat circular knop, with no traces of engraved initials, below which expands a balluster surmounting a second, more highly abraded, but tapering baluster flanked by collars. The buckle plate is sub-rectangular, comprising of copper alloy sheet cut into two oval lobes arranged longitudinally and divided by a transverse bar, with a second bar at the buckle end, with a smaller, plain rectangular back-plate connected by two rectangular arms which would have curved around the bar of the buckle. Circular hand drilled pits are arranged in a concentric spiral extending from the base, although leving a narrow plain rim, to the apex, leaving a small bald tonsure.
