Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Copper-alloy mount, possibly strap mount or book mount. Rectangular in shape and made from cast copper-alloy. The mount has two rivet holes, one at either end of the strip, and there is iron staining around them, suggesting the rivets or pins were made of iron.
Between the lettering the surface of the mount is cross-hatched. The back is plain and undecorated.
The inscription is unclear, but seems to show the letters: INSM.U or INSM.W.
Based on the lettering present on the object, the suggested date is late Medieval - early Post Medieval (c. 1450 - 1600).
