A cast iron Post Medieval cannon ball, probably dating to circa AD 1500 - 1700. The object is spherical in shape with pitting and corrosion visible on the surface. The cannon ball has an orange coloured patina across its surfaces. Abrasion caused by movement whilst within the plough soil may have resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail and full diameter and weight. The diameter and weight suggest that the type of cannon used to fire the cannon ball may have been the Demi-Culverin. This cannon had a 4 inch bore and fired a ball weighing 9.5 lb (4309 g). Gordon…

The object comprises a hollow circular shaft, tapering slightly from the open end before expanding to form the door knob terminal. The terminal is bulbous and hollow. A fragment of a locking pin from a probable Medieval, copper alloy Medieval locking buckle. The frames on these buckles are rectangular in shape. As well as the buckle pin, they incorporate a separate piercing for an elongated pin that extends outside of the buckle frame on one side to form a finger bar which typically terminates in a spherical knop. In this example, it is only the locking pin fragment that remains. The shaft of the pin is a flattened oval in section and terminates in a flattened spherical knop. Around 50% of the spur is present, consisting of a small amount of each arm, the neck and a nearly complete rowel box. The arms have a flattish oval cross section. A copper-alloy, anomorphic, probable harness mount of late Post Medieval date. The mount is in the shape of a probable dog's head and neck. There is evidence of at least 3 mounting lugs on the reverse, though these have corroded somewhat in antiquity. The mount probably dates to the 17th or 18th century. The mount measures 36.1mm in height, is 36.82mm wide at the base, and is 5.44mm thick. The object weighs 19.5 grams. The surface has a grey-green patina and there is damage to the nose of the dog.

A cast copper-alloy strap distributor, probably from a Medieval bridle (AD 1200 to AD 1500). The distributor has an oval looped attachment at each end and a larve square knop in the centre. The knop is decorated with a lozenge-shaped motif which may itself be surmounted with a cross, but this is unclear. The reverse is flat while all the front edges are rounded. The piercings of the attachment loops are slightly misshapen which may have come from use rather than the original casting. An incomplete, copper alloy bell of probable Medieval copper dating (AD100 to AD1500). The bell has a spherical sounding chamber with holes flanking two transverse slots. The bell terminates in an attached mount which at one time would have been longer, and pierced to allow fitting to a ring, as in similar examples. The pea inside the bell is still intact and the bell still sounds. The bell was probably used for hawking. The bell is 15.3mm in diameter, 17.9 mm tall and weighs 4.7g. Similar bells can be found on the database at CORN-EF2EB0 and LEIC-FB5012.

A complete blue and white annular glass bead of probable Early Medieval dating (5th to 7th Centuries AD). The bead has been made from an opaque blue glass, with translucent white glass trails as decoration on the surface. It is circular in plan. It has convex sides, with the ends flattened, almost an oblate form. Slight pitting and chipping is present on the surface. The decorative pattern consists of apparently random swirling lines. The central piercing is quite large (8.9mm) and slightly off-centre. The bead has a diameter of 20.27mm, and is 8.49mm thick. It weighs 4g.
