An incomplete copper alloy Roman brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill type (Mackreth Part 3, Group 4, flat wing ends type), c.f. Mackreth 2011, 4.l. Plate 48, dating (AD 80 toAD 120).
The pin and catch plate are missing, presumed lost in antiquity.
The bow is broad, angular with a hump like head. Part of the rearward facing hook is missing at the rear. The bow gradually tapers down to the terminal where the foot is round and small. The upper bow is decorated with a central, fluted vertical rib, and there is a decorative moulding in relief on the crown of the brooch.
