Record ID: PUBLIC-B41230
Object type: SEAL
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete, cast lead, post-medieval seal. The object represents one half of the complete seal. It is a disc, being roughly in plan and flat in section. One face has a raised Star of David (open interlocked equilateral triangles forming a six pointed star), the other the number 453 suggesting it may be a kosher seal. This is probably a Kosher meat seal, assuring that a food animal had been slaughtered in accord with Jewish Rabbinical law. A similar seal is reported from Lincolnshire as LIN-290B62. Dimensions: Diameter - 15mm Weight 2.58g
