An incomplete copper-alloy medieval forked spacer for a composite strap-end (AD c.1270-c.1450), missing the tip of one of its forks. It has a plain acorn knop terminal with a collar dividing the acorn element from the two prongs. The prongs are flat and rectangular in cross-section and unequal in length: measuring from the centre of the collar the longer prong is 19.4 mm long and the shorter one is 18.0mm long.The object is fairly corroded and has a green patina. Overall the object measures 30.11 mm long, 21.3mm wide and 4.3mm thick at the terminal. It weighs 2.46 grams. Examples o…

An incomplete Roman copper alloy 'bell-shaped' furniture fitting dating to the period AD 43-410. The fitting measures 18.3mm in height, 29.5mm in diameter and weighs 19.3g. The patina is smooth, the colour is brown with specks of green. The fitting has a corroded domed top with a central lug of diameter 12mm at its base narrowing to 8mm and then widening to 12 mm at the top. An incomplete Roman oval copper alloy plate brooch, with traces of gilding. The brooch, which is 33.1mm in length and 27.4mm wide, has a ridged surround to a 18.4mm long and 13.1mm wide central oval setting for an intaglio, glass or enameled decoration which is now lost. The surround has most of its gilt remaining. The rear has an intact catchplate and hinge mount for a now lost iron pin, the end of of which remains at the hinge. The rear has a green patina. 2nd-3rd century AD. Similar examples can be seen on p364 Hattatt (2000).

An incomplete pair of Roman copper alloy tweezers, of date AD 100 - 200. The tweezers consists of a long thin sheet of metal, rectangular in cross-section, folded round to form a circular loop in the middle. The arms decrease from 8.3mm wide at the loop to 2.7mm wide at the end. The tip of one arm is bent back on itself. Both arms are deformed with a curve in the middle of their length. A complete Roman copper-alloy pair of tweezers of date, c.AD 100-200. The tweezers are comprised of a single piece of metal folded in half to create two parallel plates with a loop for attachment at the apex. Both plates are rectangular in plan and section with slight curves towards the tweezing ends. The tweezers are undecorated. The metal has a green patina.The tweezers were found at the same location as the Chatelaine brooch, PUBLIC-9E4646. The tweezers are 64.2mm long, 4.8mm wide, 1.1mm thick and weighs 5.0g. A Roman enamelled copper alloy chatelaine brooch dating to the period c AD100-200. The brooch is sub triangular in form and bent backwards across the upper part above the the central boss. The plate has a straight base with two curved sides which meet at a knop at the apex. Extending from the two sides of the brooch are three further, smaller knops. At either end of the base is a foot like knop which originally would have held a bar on which small implements, tweezers, toothpick, etc, would have hung. An incomplete medieval copper strap end plate dating to the period (c. AD 1250-1400). The strap end is made from a single sheet of copper alloy that has been folded equally in two; a rounded section at the fold indicates where the plate would have fitted around the buckle frame. The plate is rectangular in plan and open-ended. Three round headed rivets are extant at the corners of the plate and these would have secured the plate to a leather or textile strap.
