A middle Saxon copper alloy hooked tag. The tag comprises a U-shaped plate with three circular perforations at the broad end and a hook projecting from the tapering end. The hook curves backwards underneath this projection. The upper face of the plate is decorated with a row of tiny circles (about a dozen) along each the outside edges. The reverse is plain and undecorated. Length 22mm; Width at the wide end 12mm, tapering to 2mm at the hooked end. Weight 1g.

An incomplete Middle Saxon decorated copper-alloy stylus. The shank is bent half way along its length, is circular in section and incomplete at the pointed handle-end. The shank thickness ranging from 4mm at the shoulder to 2mm at the broken end. Two incised bands decorate the shank 15mm from the break. At the point where the shank meets the spatula the shank is decorated with a moulded reel with two collars above and below. The head is triangular and damaged at the end. A complete, undecorated, copper alloy stylus dating to the eighth/ninth century. The stylus has a flat, triangular head that tapers to the now worn terminal. The whole object weighs 4g and is 91mm long, with the spatulate head being 11mm wide. The shank is circular in cross-section, 3mm thick where it starts at the head end, tapering towards 1mm at the pointed end. A similar stylus can be seen on item LIN-D1E975.

This unusual object is possibly a copper alloy strap end. The front view is tear-drop in shape, whereas from the side view it is slightly flattened. It has a greenish patina. At the more rounded end is a small attachment comprising a short neck from which emanate three short broken points. Probably Roman in date, AD 43 to 410. Length 27mm; max width of tear drop sides = 13 mm, max thickness of flattened sides = 8mm.

Copper alloy Roman Langton Down brooch. A cylindrical spring case retains a coil spring from which projects the stub of a pin. The spring case has incised short thin lines fanning out from the point of the bow attachment. It has a flat strip bow, which on its display face bears longitudinal reeding. The stub of a pierced catch plate remains behind the lower bow. It has a greenish patina. Suggested date: Early Roman, AD 43 - 60. An almost complete Medieval copper-alloy harness fitting (c. 1200-c. 1400). This is a cast fitting consisting of two rectangular loops flanked by a pierced central thickened lobe which contains the remains of a copper-alloy stem. At one end of the fitting there is a thickened broken extension, snapped off across a hole. This fitting is mostly reddish brown, with some green, and has traces of surface gilding on one side of the central lobe. Weight 11.5g, length 62mm, height 10mm, width 5mm.

An incomplete moulded clay tobacco pipe, of Post Medieval date (17th century). It has been moulded from white pipeclay. The pipe fragment consists of a complete bowl, foot and start of the stem. No maker's marks are present on the foot, bowl or stem. A line of rouletting is present close to the rim of the bowl. Length from rim to foot is 36mm, rim internal diameter 11mm, max bowl diameter 19mm. The 'stem start' (at the bowl base) is 9mm external diameter with a 3mm centrally bored hole.

An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy buckle circa AD1200-1400. It consists of a flat rectangular plate, 15mm of one end is bent over by 360 degrees at one end, to hold the pin, and fastened to itself with two small rivets. Overall length of the object is 37mm, including the 9mm projecting pin. Both edges of the plate are shaped with two small notches near the 'rear' and a tiny projection near the 'front' pin end. A fastening hole, 2mm diameter, is in the centre of the plate 7mm from the 'rear' end.

A decorated hollow copper-alloy scaend-cap from a knife, medieval or post-medieval, probably cast. It has a 'stretched' hexagonal cross-section. Faint eroded decoration on the largest opposing sides. The smaller 4 sides are each decorated with tiny diagonal lines or chevrons. The chape is wider at one end, 15x8mm, than the other, 11x5mm. Length 28mm, weight 4g. See SF6653 for similar.
