A copper alloy mount dating from the Roman period. The surviving piece is in the shape of a semi circle which has two smaller circular pieces cut out of it (pelta shaped). The front is convex and the reverse is flat. it has a notch opposite the central bar. It has a length of 33.0mm, width 22.0mm from notch to tip of central bar. Thickness 2.00mm, weight 8.92g. Similar objects on the PAS database are ESS-A61324, SUSS-EA12D2 and WILT-6F9C36. They are often associated with the military and tend to be given a 4th century date.
