The fragment probably derives from a cooking vessel such as a cauldron, posnet or skillet. Both fragments exhibit a slightly out-turned rim. Thick traces of sooting on the exterior face. All breaks are worn. Late Iron Age - early Roman copper alloy zoomorphic spout from a strainer bowl dating to the period c. AD 25 - 100. It comprises a concavo-convex D-shaped plate with the spout projecting from the centre. The spout is in the form of an animal head, probably a dog or bear. It has short pointed ears sitting on either side of the head and prominent moulded brows, the eyes indicated by two punched annulets.
