Object type: THIMBLE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Nottinghamshire

Object type: COIN WEIGHT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Nottinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A small copper alloy coin weight of post-medieval date. The object appears to be uniface, the only distinct feature being an eliptical shape which may possibly represent the hull of a ship. The diameter of 12 mm and weight of 1.2 g (19 grains) suggest the weight may have been used for a halfcrown of James I or a quarter angel of Elizabeth I, therefore dating from 1554 - 1619.

Object type: BELL
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Nottinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A small copper alloy bell of medieval to post-medieval date. The object appears complete but has been flattened. The bell would have been spherical with a single sound slot across the lower hemisphere - this has been opened by the flattening of the object. The sound pea appears to still be present, indicated by a lump in the upper half of the object. There is no visible seam to indicate that the bell was formed by two soldered halves, which may indicate it was pressed from copper alloy sheet, suggesting a later date. However the surface is corroded with a dusty brown patina, which may…
