A stamped copper alloy decorative mount or stud of possibly roman date. Incised lines radiate out from the central point, forming 12 wedge shapes. Each wedge terminates with a rounded lobe. The back face is hollow and within it is the rust red base of an iron rivet which was used to attach this mount to another item, probably a belt or strap. County: Leicestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Medieval, cast, lead alloy biconvex spindle whorl. Both faces are decorated but one is damaged and worn, therefore difficult to interpret, but seems similar to the other face. There is a raised line around the outer edge and each face has a raised zigzag line forming a six pointed star. However, the pattern is disrupted by another raised line running through the pattern. Each triangle formed by the zigzag contains from one to three pellets.
Diameter 33mm Weight 35.31g Central hole max diameter 9.8mm.

A possibly Medieval copper alloy strap mount of triangular form. The general shape is similar to zoomorphic representations of bees or other insects. From base to pointed end it appears to be divided centally and just before the point, by an incised line . This gives the impression of a head, thorax and abdomen. Towards the base are four oblique incised lines which, together with the curved corners of the base, give the impression of wings. There is a rounded knob on the base between the "wings".There are two lugs, probably broken off spikes, on the back. The back is concave with a gr…

Medieval copper alloy buckle, D shaped in plan, complete with pin. The rounded frame narrows towards the bar and terminates in a zoomorphic head on each side. The worn animal heads are simple, bird like and appear as if biting the bar, the mouth being represented by a chevron shaped line. Each eye is represented by a small convex bulge. The outside edge of the frame is D shaped in section, thickness 2.2mm. There is the suggestion of raised decoration on the frame with a slightly worn area under the tip of the pin, however this could be a corrosion effect. The bar is straight and is ova…

A lead or lead alloy ampulla of late medieval date. It consists of a circular body leading into a rectangular neck. There are two sub-circular lugs one on each side at the base of the neck. One of these is folded inwards. The obverse side of the body has, in raised lines, a large W with what appears to be a crown above. The W could be a double V. The central lines of the double V or of the W overlap to form a triangular area filled with a hatched pattern. This side is flat. Roman bow brooch. It appears to be a Dolphin type with hinged pin although both the spring and pin are missing. The foot of the bow and catch plate are missing. Each wing is in the form of a tube with an oval outer cross section. No decoration is visible on the bow except two parallel grooves aro…
